Professional individual counselling to support new ways of experiencing and living life

"The greatest privilege in life is to be able to be who you are." - Carl Jung

About me

My name is Sam and I am a BACP registered counsellor with training in Humanistic and Integrative therapy.

Whether you're experiencing low mood, anxiety, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, a loss of purpose, or unhealthy coping mechanisms, I can help you make sense of what you are going through and explore what might help you.

If this is the first time you have considered counselling, then it may feel like a daunting step. I would like to reassure you that sessions will only move at a pace that feels right for you. This in turn will ensure that you are able to get what you need from counselling.

Where possible, I encourage face-to-face sessions, as many clients find these most beneficial. That said, I also offer remote counselling online and by telephone which can work very well.

Along side my private practice, I work at my local hospice with bereaved clients and clients facing life limiting illnesses. I also work at a sixth form college, helping young people navigate anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and self-esteem issues. I support people from all walks of life.

As a fully-qualified counsellor, I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and work in accordance with their ethical framework.

My approach

Choosing to begin counselling is a meaningful step - one that takes courage. Whether you're aware of what's troubling you or simply sense that something doesn't feel quite right, counselling can help you become unstuck and start to move in the direction you'd like your life to go.

I work relationally, which means I place our therapeutic relationship at the heart of our work. I'll shape our sessions to meet your needs, and we'll move at a pace that feels manageable for you.

Confidentiality

Everything shared in our sessions is confidential and takes place in a safe private space. As part of maintaining the highest professional standards, our work may be shared anonymously with my supervisor - this is standard practice for all counsellors. Confidentiality would only be broken in exceptional circumstances, such as a safeguarding concern, and I would always endeavour to discuss this with you first.

Sharing a problem

Counselling is a helpful way to share problems because it provides a neutral, non-judgmental environment with a qualified professional.

Healthier choices

By gently exploring your experiences and gaining new insights, you can begin to understand long-held patterns and make different choices - ones that can move you closer to where you'd like to be.

What issues can counselling help with?

People come to me for help with a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through counselling:

Feelings of stress or anxiety

Panic attacks

Relationship difficulties

Grief, loss or bereavement

Unhealthy coping strategies or addiction

Trauma and post-traumatic stress

Loss of identity or purpose

Self harm

Depression

Confidence and self-esteem

Anger management

Issues relating to sexuality

Difficulties at work or in retirement

Family

Physical health concerns

Physical or sexual abuse

My location

I work from a private counselling room in North Chailey and also from a room at The Yews Community Centre, 55, Boltro Road, Haywards Heath, West Sussex, RH16 1BJ. Both rooms are within easy reach of Lewes, East Grinstead and Burgess Hill. Free parking is available at both.

In addition to face-to-face counselling in North Chailey and Haywards Heath, I also offer online sessions to people throughout the UK via Microsoft Teams.

Fees & availability

I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation so we can have an initial conversation about what's brought you to counselling and whether I might be the right fit for you.

Following this, I offer an introductory assessment session at a reduced rate of £40. Subsequent sessions cost £60 and last 50 minutes. Sessions are offered weekly, as I find this tends to work best for clients.

I will always do my best to offer you an appointment promptly and will aim to respond to all enquires within 48 hours.

Get in touch

I would love to hear from you. If you have any questions about how counselling works, or you would like to arrange an initial assessment appointment, please feel free to get in touch - there's no obligation and all contact is strictly confidential.

You can reach me by email or by calling 07927 647179. I'm happy to chat things through before you commit to anything.

All enquires are usually answered within 48 hours.

Frequently asked questions

How long will I need to have counselling?

That's entirely up to you. There's no set number of sessions - some clients feel a short-term piece of work is what they need, while others benefit from longer-term support. I offer weekly sessions and will always encourage us to work towards a thoughtful ending when the time feels right, rather than simply stopping. Every client is different, and your journey will be shaped by what you need.

How long will I have to wait for an appointment?

I aim to respond to all enquiries within 48 hours and will do my best to offer an appointment as soon as possible.

Can I bring a friend or relative with me?

Counselling sessions are one-one. The relationship between client and counsellor is at the heart of the work, and the confidential space is kept just for you. A friend or relative cannot be part of a counselling. That said, it's completely natural to want support when first reaching out - please don't hesitate to get in touch, even if you have questions before taking that step.
